So, a week ago I went to see Tempest back at Jammin Java. OMG I love these guys. The current line up is definitely a different sound, more metal, not just in genre but in the physical sound. I now have a LOT of Tempest stuff to pick up. I WILL see them in Herndon at the end of May so maybe I'll get some then.

I was able to get a couple pictures when I saw Tempest last Tuesday at Musikfest. They were amazing, as usual. Here's a couple pics I took during the show.

Well it looks like this winter is bringing changes to Tempests line up. I'm sad to see Ronan Carrol and Ariane Cap leave the band. They have brought so much to the band I wish them both well.
I am now of course anxious to hear who the line up contains.

This community has been really really quiet. So lets liven it up. I would love people to make a post. Tell us your favorite Tempest song, how you found the band, a particular incident with the band or performance you enjoyed. Lets liven things up a bit.

Ok, I am sooooo jonesing to get the new CD. The cover art is beautiful. The song snippets are excellent. I heard some of the songs when they were touring in the fall. :) God I love these guys. One of the only groups I really go all gushing groupie with. I really hope I can go to Karflukifest.

Tempest, Friday night, Pleasanton's Main Street Brewery
Mixing an 18-hour day (hours counted awake BEFORE arriving at the venue to enjoy Tempest, yet again this year - 4th time since May), very poor lighting, and simply being tired from the workweek isn't a good thing.
While the conversations were nice, even with two tired bandmembers (Adolfo & Ariane), who were running on short sleep and long days, my mood was more towards quiet and withdrawn.
The lighting at the Main Street Brewery was worse than a year ago - http://www.livejournal.com/users/rbeebephoto/47010.html#cutid1 - as there were lights not working this time around, and that the neon signs weren't as "lively" as before (one, which provided a good deal of interesting backlighting last year, in the street-facing window, as off)
( FridayCollapse )
I came close to NOT recording a single frame during the evening. The fifty images recorded were all pretty weak. Of them, I'm only sharing five, a very poor average for my image-making sessions. There were an additional 10-15 that were deleted from the camera as soon as they were recorded.
I left before the second set after their break. By the time I fell into bed, I'd been up for 20+ hours, on five hours' sleep. I remembered why I don't like to go through days like this.
If you enjoy Tempest, you'll probably find something redeemable in here. Otherwise, you'll think maybe I should have left the camera turned "off" and the lenscap on.

Hey folks, if any of you are East Coasters from the DC area, I'm going to go see them at Jammin Java on August 23. I wish I could have gone up for Bethleham Musikfest, but I just wasn't able. I'll write a detailed report afterwards.

July 10th, Oakland. California
Last weekend, I had a wonderful afternoon hanging-out with a few musician-friends at the Dunsmuir Scottish Games, held annually at the late-1800s Dunsmuir House in Oakland, Calif.
This was actually the FIFTH time since last Labor Day weekend that I've enjoyed these musicians in concert. Such is the good luck of having them as one of the "local" bands. (the opposite of my relationship with Seven Nations)
With one exception, this set of photos is with the Bay Area-based band, Tempest - http://www.tempestmusic.com/ - I'll add another set of photos with Molly's Revenge - http://www.mollys-revenge.com/ - including the final set where they joined Tempest on stage for a nine musician jam.
I think this was the most relaxed afternoon I've spent in their company - and I've known Michael and Lief (and Adolfo) since 1998(!!!) - and having this afternoon as a lead-in to my birthday in the middle of the coming week was like a nice little present to myself.

As Tempest prob'ly won't be back in my town til October, I have a favor to ask of those who'll see them this summer. Last time they played my town, I talked to Ronan during a break & mentioned that it'd be fun to hear them do Black Sabbath's "Fairies Wear Boots" as a novelty song, a la "Stonehenge." Ronan seemed to like the idea; apparently he's a Black Sabbath fan himself. But whether or not he brought it up with Lief after that is beyond me. So if you catch one of their shows this summer, would you post here if it's in their set now or not? Thanks!

Hello out there!
Hello out there in LJ land. The site has been pretty quiet I know. Just got an email update on the spring tour schedule so you might want to check out www.tempestmusic.com. I was thrilled to see they will be back at the first venue I saw them at, Jammin Java in Vienna VA. For those of you keeping track, that is half the distance of the next closest one. Its a pain, but I can do an hour and a half away on a week night, I'll just plan on lots of coffee the next morning.
So please comment talk amongst yourselves, have fun. :)

Tempest, Nov 20th, Lodi, California
(......copied from a post on my own just-updated LJ page......)"What a difference a day can make" - a oft-used quote we've all found reason to connect with at some point. Right?
Going into Saturday afternoon, my spirits were slipping like a bag of sand with a hole near the bottom: it was simply slowing flowing away. Fast forward to the Tempest (http://www.tempestmusic.com) show in the restored 1920's(?) Lodi Hotel, in downtown Lodi a handful of hours later...
...Going from the Pine Street entrance to the small restaurant owned by jazz musician/sideman Mombo Hernandez, to the small auditorium/ballroom(?) in the neighboring hotel was a bit like stepping into Al Stewart's "The Year of the Cat," as I followed Tempest bassist Ariane Cap...
(innocently looking like "school teacher Ariane"...)
...AND in performance
...from a long table in the restaurant's back room, outdoors through a side door, across an attractively landscaped little brick-walled-buildings enclosed courtyard, through yet another side entrance to this courtyard into the lobby of the historic hotel (facing a neighboring street), through yet another door, into the intimate two-story high ballroom with a small balcony on the left side. (There was only room for about 80 guests to enjoy the show!!!!)

A fun way to say "hello" to this group...
Tempest's Saturday night performance at Pleasanton's "Main Street Brewery" was not only enjoyed, but captured via my camera...
My own LJ includes the whole text and numerous linked images - http://www.livejournal.com/users/rbeebephoto/47010.html
- with notes on the photography of the performance.
So, this becomes my way of saying "hello" to this new LJ community. Aside from simply being a fan of Tempest, I am also an East SF Bay Area-based photographer.
I met the band at the annual Scottish Games in Pleasanton back in 1998 or '99 (whichever was the (u>year</u> AFTER
Dianna was killed). I've managed to catch them only twice outside of these Games (actually, I honestly thought it was my first, until Lief reminded me of seeing them at the Arts festival in Fremont two summers ago). I've caught Caliban in performance several times, as well as Micheal's side projects on a number of occasions, and have always enjoyed the warm greeting with them.
Enjoy the link and the imagery...
